04Nov09: The poker machine industry is worth twelve million dollars a year and it is estimated that forty per cent of the money brought in from pokies comes from problem gamblers. To discourage young people from taking up gambling, state and territory governments have agreed minors should not be exposed to gambling areas in pubs and clubs. Anti-pokie campaigners are attacking these venues for providing family entertainment and argue allowing minors to dine and play near poker machines is harmful.
